Planning a stay with us often raises a few questions about our rooms and the inn itself. Below, we've gathered answers covering room details and accessibility, plus a bit of history behind the property, so you know what to expect during your time in Chesapeake City.

  • How many rooms does the inn have?

    We offer ten rooms across three floors, ranging from first-level rooms near the fire pit to penthouse suites on the top level. Room styles and bed sizes vary, giving you several options for your stay.

  • Is the inn directly on the canal?

    Yes, we sit directly on the C&D Canal in Chesapeake City, Maryland. Our location lets you watch canal traffic and see the Chesapeake City Bridge right from your room.

  • Does every room have outdoor space?

    Each of our ten rooms opens to its own deck or balcony facing the canal. These outdoor spaces let you watch boats pass or simply sit outside without leaving your floor.

  • Are you pet friendly?

    As much as we love our pets, we cannot accept them at our Inn. In the event you choose to sneak in your furbaby, we will charge the card we have on file for a minimum of $250 cleaning and sanitization fee.

  • Is there a shared outdoor area to relax?

    Our outdoor fire pit overlooks the canal and gives everyone a place to gather in the evening. It sits apart from the private decks, adding another spot to enjoy the water.

  • Are any rooms accessible for guests with mobility needs?

    Our Wicomico Room offers a handicap-accessible layout on the first level. It's also our largest standard room, with a king bed and deck space overlooking the canal.

  • Do any rooms have a Jacuzzi tub?

    Several rooms include a Jacuzzi tub, such as the Annapolis Suite. Tub styles differ by room, so reach out if a jetted tub matters for your stay.

  • What can I see from my room?

    Rooms face the water, with views of canal traffic and the Chesapeake City Bridge. Across the canal sits Schaefer's Canal House, one of the town's well known waterfront landmarks.

  • How close is the inn to shops and restaurants?

    We're part of a compact, walkable section of Chesapeake City. Restaurants, shops, and public waterfront spaces sit just outside our door in the historic district.

  • What is the history behind the building?

    A historical marker states the property was built in 1920 for Captain Firman Layman. It became an eight-room inn in 1996, and two more suites were added in 2004.

  • How many people can stay in a room?

    Room capacity ranges from two to three guests depending on the room. The Chesapeake Suite sleeps three, while most other rooms are set up for two.

  • Do you provide breakfast?

    Yes!

    Summer

    • We offer a continental-style breakfast including a hot breakfast casserole, pastries, fruit, yogurt, granola, and several yummy treats. Served daily Memorial Day through Labor Day.

    Fall through Spring

    • Saturday and Sunday: we offer our continental-style breakfast including a hot breakfast casserole.
    • Monday-Friday: breakfast is provided by Cafe on the Bay which is located less than 1 block from the Ship Watch Inn! 

  • Can we bring our children?

    We know that your children are well behaved and travel often; however, we cannot accommodate them if they are under the age of 12. We are not child proof and we want to be respectful of other guests.

  • Is there parking?

    We have 4 assigned parking spaces to the left of the Inn for your convenience. There are 2 public spaces parallel to ours as well as in front of the inn along First Street. Please avoid parking in "Permit Parking Only" or at the apartments across from the Inn as you will be ticketed. If you have handicap parking requirements, just give us a call or email us and we will reserve a space for you.
